Field Trip North Day 4 - Verona, S. Vito in Altivole, Venice.....so shoot me - im not splelchkeing this.
A 7AM meeting time this morning...great. im a morning person anyway right? We depart for Verona at about 715 and get to Museo Castelvecchio, a museum in Verona at about 1130AM. We explore not the pieces of artwork in the museum, but the museum itself as a piece of architecture. We museum was designed by Carlo Scarpa who designed in reverse order from most architects, He designed building based on small details then fit everything together. His work is pretty much one of a kind, its been rarely duplicated well. After the museum we got some chineese fooood at a stop on the way back...we had over an hour before we were supposed to meet and get back on the bus. We get there and order, we dont know the protocol anymore, were in a chinese restaurant in Italy, do we speak english, attempt italian, draw chinese symbols, or just point at what we want? we all order and wait, and wait, and wait. the food takes forever to get there, and were he only people in the restaurant, we think they only had one burner or something. we get out of there 15 minutes past when we were sposed to meet for the bus, and some of us just got the food to go and still havent eaten it yet. we go to the meeting spot, and the bus isnt there...crap...we call romolo and they just went around the town for a little bit, luckily they havent left yet. phew. we get on amoungst the boos from fellow ae's. we make our way to the next spot- S. Vito in Altivole. More specifically the Brion Cemetery, another work by Carlo Scarpa. His focus on detail was precise here also. it started to rain so we left a little earlier than we had planned for, which actaually made up for the time we lost waiting for us and our chinese food adventure. Our next spot, my favorite of the big italian cities - Venice. We check into our hotel after crossing five bridges to get there. This time we get a bathroom witha showerhead in the middle and a drain on the floor. awesome. That night we do a little exploration and then get to bed. unfortunatley the bedbugs got me...
